Review Topic: Naturalization

My case is super simple, so the interview experience may change if your case is more complicated (previous marriages, kids from previous marriages, kids applying with you, overstays, etc); however, my interview was quick and I was in and out in 15 minutes.

When you come in, only you (And your lawyer or interpreter) may come in, nobody else is allowed. When I arrived, the agent was expecting me, maybe because my interview was at 1PM so the first right after lunch. The agent looked at my interview letter, went though security with me and then straight to his office.

Asked for my Driver's License and Green Card, then asked for a few general questions (Crime history, travel history, etc).

Then asked me the civics test questions verbally: West coast ocean, east coast ocean, what does the judicial branch do?, whom do we pledge alliance to? (I forgot the other 2); then proceeded with reading questions by displaying a simple sentence on a tablet and asking me to read it "Who lives in the white house?", followed by asking me to write on the tablet "The president lives in the white house".

Continued filling out some forms on his computer and then approved me. Gave me the form where you can write if you want to change your name and all other information they ask for the naturalization certificate and sent me on my way.

During the interview I asked for possible oath ceremony dates and the agent was nice enough to tell me, although of course I had to wait for my oath ceremony letter on the mail. Use your social skills to slide this question during your interview.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Interview was this morning the 24th at 9 AM and it went great. My wife and I were called in at 9:21 and walked out by 9:45.

- He swore us in and asked me a few questions like name, address and if I've been previously married.

- Then he asked my wife the same questions plus several from the list like if she's been arrested or if she's part of a terrorist organization etc.

- He asked if there was any more evidence we wanted to provide so we gave him our recent bank statements, updated insurance card and photos from the last year or so, about 25 total.

- While he was looking at the pictures he asked me how we met and who went to our wedding.

- After looking at everything he asked how far along my wife was (she's 37 weeks so it was very obvious) and congratulated us on our first baby.

- Finally he said that he has up to 120 days or something to make a decision but that he never takes that long and that we should get a letter fairly soon.

Sure enough at 4:30 PM today we got our status updated to "New Card Being Produced"

It was terrible. Then, I sat in limbo for two years.

Officer was very polite and friendly, having met us before. She went through the information in the I-485 to confirm all was correct. I had previously submitted I-693 and evidence of co-mingling of finances at the first interview appointment. After she confirmed the info in I-485 she asked me if I would like to submit anything else, I offered further financial evidence which she declined. I asked if she would like to see our photos, and she looked at them but had already stamped my paperwork as approved.
She told us my application is approved and that I would receive my green card in 2-6 weeks!

Arrived for the interview and after waiting for an hour we were taken to the office to be interviewed, where we were then told that the officer was not able to interview us as they had not requested transfer of the underlying, pending petition. So the interview has been postponed and they have been unable to estimate when they will have the paperwork and be able to reschedule.
